[ In the middle of the day, Luceti is treated to the following eloquent series of letters: ]

[ So this is what happens when a hoof gets ahold of a drawing-to-text synthesizer. This is followed by a voice post about three minutes later: ]

... triangle, a couple of straight lines, and a square have to do with...

[ Several minutes pass, and then a video materializes. The viewer may be greeted with a pair of huge, intense violet eyes. ]

A-ha!

[ The sight of this particular creature might seem out of place to anyone who doesn't know Pinkie Pie or Rainbow Dash. You can now see a purple pony with a horn protruding from her mane. The horn is bathed in a magenta glow, as is a pointy stick that is way too close to the camera. Like mankind before her, Twilight is learning how to use tools. ]

Hi, um... anypony who's watching this! I'm Twilight Sparkle, and... I don't recognize these woods at all. [ She looks around, probably for the umpteenth time. Twilight's found herself deep within the forest, to the southeast. Not that she knows this. ] It doesn't look like any part of the Everfree Forest I've been to. [ A cloud parts and the sun shines in her face through the unseen treetops. Twilight shields her face with a hoof. ] Oh. Actually, I guess I could...

[ She looks back at herself and spreads her wings. Not her small Luceti wings, though. A huge pair of alicorn wings, of the same purple as her fur. She prepares to take off, then remembers the journal and hits it again with the stick. Video feed switches off. ]

[ Following this recording, the population of Luceti may witness a purple shape flying around the sky, observing the village from above. She'll circle a few times, trying to orient herself, before deciding to alight in the fountain square.

Two areas will grab Twilight's interest fairly quickly. First, she'll see her coronation outfit in the window of the clothing shop. She'll find this strange enough to go inside and consider buying it.

The other building she'll notice is the library (with a squee of excitement). Good luck extracting her from perusing the many, many, many tomes that now litter the floor. This is why Twilight needs an assistant librarian. What she wouldn't give for Spike right about now.

Feel free to interact with her in the square, at the clothing store, in the library, or in the air: she's several yards up but not out of shouting distance. ]

What exactly do you mean by "other worlds"? How far away is Equestria, anyway?

Do you...have the concept of 'other dimensions' or other realities where you're from? It's something like that.

That doesn't even make any sense. There's only one reality, and it's completely logical! Or, MOSTLY logical, anyway! If you don't count Pinkie's pinkie sense.

....Do you know anyone like me where you're from? Because I know we don't have anything like you where I'm from, and the planet is pretty well mapped out.

Well... no. Actually, I've seen a lot of... hue-mans? Since arriving here. But we don't have anything like you back home. Most of us are ponies. Along with the occasional griffon, or mule, or cow, or...

Right. Different worlds. Make sense?

...Different realities? Like a Daring Do novel? [ This is so weird. ]

I don't know what a 'Daring Do' novel is, but yeah, different realities.

Hmm. [ With some semblance of understanding reached on that point, Twilight moves on. ] And the Malnosso are the ones that brought us here? Can they send us back?

They say they're working on it, but that they don't really know how it all works yet. Supposedly that's what some of the experiments are about; them trying to figure it out.

[Not that Derek buys that, but it's been repeated by enough sources, he knows that's the common consensus, at any rate.]

People do wind up going back home, just as sudden as they got here. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, though. They're just gone, and their stuff too. You'll hear people announce it over the journals when one of their friends has gone home.

[ Well, this is a lot to take in. World seems more sinister by the minute. ] And how long have you been here?

Me? A couple of months, although there are folks that say I was here before that for a while. I don't remember it though. Guess it depends on 'when' you were taken from back home. Apparently, I was older last time.

I guess that I was, too. Rainbow Dash said so. But I didn't have wings then.

Maybe it'll come back with time; it's hard to say.

[Pause.]

So there's another one of you here already?

[How did he miss that? Oh wait; he's been in the med ward for most of his time here so far.]

Yeah, Rainbow and Pinkie Pie. They've been here a lot longer than I have. And some of my other friends used to be here as well.

[ She grins. ] Judging by the looks of things... we're a little hard to miss. [ Since everyone else is bipedal and not so multi-colored. ]

[Derek smiles too, and he nods]

Yeah, it definitely got my attention. Never seen anything like you before, to be honest. So what's your home called?

I'm from Equestria. I live in a library in Ponyville - right now, anyway. It's mostly filled with ponies like me. And I'd never seen a human before today. Where are you from?

You live in the library?

[He hopes there's some place for her to sleep and eat at; he likes libraries himself, but it's no place to live in 24/7]

I'm from a country called the United States of America; USA or America for short. It's pretty much a desert in the area where I live at, but the country itself is pretty big and covers a lot of different land types.

[Not that he stays put in any one particular place there, but, close enough.]

So it's all right to call you a pony, then? No fancy titles or anything?

You can just call me Twilight. I'm also an alicorn, but that's just a type of pony. And I still haven't gotten used to being called "princess".

And my library's also a tree. It's a nice change from Canterlot; I can stay up late reading as long as I want!

Tell me more about America. I want to know everything.

Well, Twilight fits you pretty well.

It would take a while to tell you all about my home; America's a pretty big place; millions of people, a lot of different cultures inside one mostly unifying one, bunch of cities, towns, villages. Could probably go on for a month or two and still not run out of stuff to tell you.

That is a lot. What about your home, specifically?

I travel a lot, so I don't really have a home. But when I was a kid, I lived next to the ocean with my parents. Big house, on a cliff. Really nice.

Why do you move so much now, then?

My job. I get sent all over the place, so I travel all the time.

What sort of a job is that? [ She racks her brain for far-travelling jobs at home. ] An ambassador? A soldier?
